What counts as waste, materially and metaphorically, at the turn into the twentieth century? 300 word abstracts dealing with waste in any of its cultural, political, or literary/aesthetic manifestations: wasted time, effort, energy; dispossession and laying waste; wasted lives; cultural waste lands; surplus and profligacy; expropriation and erasure; refuse, junk, garbage; terror, shame, pollution.
