Contemporary re-imaginings of angelic and demonic creatures/characters tend to re-imagine the traditional Biblical roles in such complex and interesting ways. This panel seeks to examine the current film and television depictions of these figures.

As interest has increased recently in the idea of "Revelations," so has the portrayal of angels and demons in the film genre. Additionally, as the lines between good and evil blur in modern works due to the way in which current culture defines these terms, the often strict interpretation of angels as "good" and demons as "bad" have become somewhat ambiguous. Papers should focus on any aspect of angelic or demon depictions, including possession, in contemporary films.

The panel is particularly interested in approaches that complicate the concepts of good/evil and view angels and/or demons in ways that demonstrate contemporary depictions of these traditional figures and their reflection of or influence on modern culture.

Some suggestions might include (but are not limited to) the following:

The Exorcist

The 7th Sign

Touched by an Angel

City of Angels

Angels in the Outfield

The Prophecy

The Devil's Advocate

Little Nicky

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Rosemary's Baby

The Omen
