Midwestern Culture/Glee Area- MPCA (Oct 14-16)

Call for Papers

Deadline for Abstract Submissions Extended to Monday, May 16, 2011

The Midwestern Culture area of the Midwest Popular Culture Association seeks panel and paper proposals for the annual Midwest Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association conference, which will be held at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from Friday, Oct. 14 to Sunday, Oct. 16.

For the Midwestern Culture area, I am particularly looking for papers that deal with the hit TV show Glee, a show that is set in the Midwest and deals with social issues within that region in a high school setting. However, I also will be accepting papers whose topics address any aspect of Midwestern culture or popular culture. This includes works by Midwesterners, about the Midwest, AND/OR set in the Midwest. Topics might address, but are not limited to: Pop Culture, Film, Television, Literature, Theatre, Music, Visual Art, Humor, etc.

Send a 250 word abstract and the title of the presentation to bmiller18@niu.edu by Monday, May 16, 2011 via email. Please include your name and affiliation, e-mail address, postal address, phone number, and A/V requirements (if any). Abstracts may be sent as attachments or in the body of the email.

I also welcome panel proposals, with three or more participants, consisting of a panel description along with a full list of presenters and paper titles. Please include university affiliation and contact information for each presenter and the chair.

Please direct inquiries and proposals to the area chair, Bonnie Miller, Department of English, Northern Illinois University, bmiller18@niu.edu.

More information on the conference, including the official call for papers and hotel information, may be found at http://www.mpcaaca.org.
