"Representing Violence and Writing of Disaster" October 21-22
The Western Illinois University English Graduate Student Organization conference invites scholarly papers to join a panel on violence in literature and/or film. This panel presentation will explore the ways in which disaster and violence are portrayed in literature and the role they play in literature as tools of communication. In keeping with the conference theme, papers focusing on the psychological or physiological causes and/or results of disaster and violence as portrayed in literary works or film would be fitting; however, other papers on the topic will receive equal consideration. How does disaster or violence act as a link between public and private memory? How has the portrayal of disaster/violence in literature/film changed over time? How does the portrayal of violence/disaster vary by nationality or geographic region?
Both first time conference presenters and those more experienced are welcome to submit. Please submit abstracts of no more than 500 words to panel organizers Jessica Temple and Lisa McMurtray at: firstname.lastname@example.org
