Steinbeck, Politics, and the American Dream

The John Steinbeck Society calls for proposals for papers to be given at the American Literature Association’s 23rd annual conference, which will take place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco in Embarcadero Center on the dates of May 24- 27, 2012 (Thursday through Sunday of Memorial Day weekend).

DEADLINE: January 10, 2012. All approaches welcome to Steinbeck's works (including ecological works, films, and plays) and politics relating in any way to the demise, the rebirth, or the apocryphal nature of the American Dream. Papers may related to specific works, to the works of other American writers of Steinbeck's era, to particular political commitments of Steinbeck, to his general political stance, to issues of race, ethnicity or gender, to the use made of his works by others, and to the concept of the American Dream, however theorized.
