Call for Contributions
Edited Book, Working Title, =93The Animal / Human Liberation Connection=94=

Contributions sought for an edited collection on the topic of the =20
relationship between animal and human oppressions. I hope the =20
collection will include a variety of contributions that link animal =20
cruelty, exploitation, oppression, etc. to similar experiences in =20
humans. I am looking for essays that point out continuities and =20
discontinuities between the treatment of animals and humans, and that =20=

explore the possibility of coalition between human and animal =20
liberation movements of all kinds. I am particularly interested in =20
philosophical, social scientific, political and social theoretical =20
works, though literary and cultural studies perspectives will also be =20=

seriously considered. I anticipate placing this book with a major =20
university press or academic trade press.

Examples of themes might include:

The relationship between human and animal treatment in the meat industry
Labor industry and animal welfare
Environmentalist concerns about the meat industry and animal welfare
The treatment of women or children in families and animal cruelty
Rescue and care work in animal activism linked to similar work among =20
human populations
Hurricane Katrina and other disasters
Post-colonial discourses that link people of color to animals
Uses of animal in torture and/ or war in both human and animal
The use of animals either literally or as metaphors in the formation =20
of human hierarchies
