Deadline extended: We are extending the deadline for proposals to March 21, with papers due June 1.

Borges and She: An Anthology on the Role and Depiction of Women in the work of Jorge Luis Borges.

In addition to labyrinths and mirrors, many of Jorge Luis Borges’ stories include knife fights, murders and political assassinations—men behaving badly in insistently macho ways. While there are a few fleshed-out female characters in Borges’ work, they are very much in the minority. Inspired by a 1984 essay/story by feminist writer Martha Roth, this projected anthology, Borges and She, hopes to include essays, stories, and perhaps poems that offer approaches to the questions of how women might read Borges differently than do men, how those women who do appear in his work might be read, and other aspects of the role of women in Borges’ work. Previously published and unpublished work may be submitted. No set length requirements. Not limited to women writers.

The projected anthology will appear in late 2012 via an established P.O.D. and e-book publisher. Contributors will receive a small token payment from the editor on publication, as well as a copy of the anthology.

Deadline for proposals: March 21, 2012.
Finished work from accepted proposals: June 1st, 2012.
