Reading Scenes and Systemsfull name / name of organization: Sören C. Hammerschmidt contact email: soren.hammerschmidt@ugent.be CFP: "Reading Scenes and Systems" special session, MLA 2013 I am still looking for a contributor or two for a special session I intend to propose for inclusion in the MLA 2013 program: This round table will consider approaches to bridging the gap between scenes and systems of reading, between case studies and analyses of large-scale developments (in terms of chronology, demographics, economics, etc.). What methodologies are available to connect the close study of scenes of reading to broader discussions of reading practices and mentalities? What approaches have been used so far, and how are they being adapted or reconceived? Methodologies that were developed to deal with large, complex structures (such as network theory, systems theory, or data/text mining) will be of particular interest to this round table, but proposals considering approaches from a broad range of methodologies are invited. The round table aims to bring together five to six scholars who will offer brief presentations followed by plenary discussion. Please send short proposals by March 20, 2012, to Sören Hammerschmidt (soren.hammerschmidt@ugent.be). cfp categories: african-american american bibliography_and_history_of_the_book childrens_literature classical_studies cultural_studies_and_historical_approaches eighteenth_century ethnicity_and_national_identity gender_studies_and_sexuality general_announcements humanities_computing_and_the_internet interdisciplinary medieval modernist studies poetry popular_culture postcolonial religion renaissance romantic science_and_culture theory twentieth_century_and_beyond victorian
