Call for Abstracts (April 23, 2012) for CRITICAL INSIGHTS: LITERATURE OF PROTEST AND LIBERATION, a collection of scholarly essayfull name / name of organization: Kimberly Drake/Scripps College contact email: kdrake@scrippscollege.edu The editor of the book Critical Insights: Literature of Protest and Liberation, a collection of scholarly essays (under contract with Salem Press/EBSCO) seeks contributions on any aspect of protest literature (defined as fiction, poetry, autobiography, creative nonfiction, drama, and song lyrics written about and/or by any socially, politically, and/or economically marginalized group of people in any country). The book will be composed of 13 original essays written for an audience of advanced high school and undergraduate college students. These 13 chapters will include 9 chapters of literary criticism and 4 chapters focusing on particular aspects of protest literature, including a “critical lens” chapter, a chapter on the historical/cultural context of one text, a chapter comparing 2-3 texts, and a “critical reception chapter." Generally, chapters will focus on commonly studied literary texts or on literary depictions of commonly studied social protest and liberation movements, but chapters on newer or understudied texts/movements are welcomed. To propose a chapter, please send a 500-word abstract (or more than one abstract) and a cv by April 23, 2012. Notification of acceptance will be given by May 10, 2012.
