Music Area of Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association, November 1-3, 2012, in Pittsburgh, PA
The MAPACA Music Area invites submissions from individuals or organized panels to participate in the 23rd annual Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association (MAPACA) conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, November 1-3, 2012.
Abstracts on any topic of music will be considered. This may include but is not limited to:
- Artists, albums, or songs
- History or eras
- Music and mass media
- Journalism or criticism
- Scenes or subcultures
- Music and/as commerce
- Industry or technology
- Music and teaching
- Performance or performativity
- Pittsburgh Music Culture
To submit a proposal, please submit a 300-word abstract and a brief CV or bio by June 15, 2012 to Music Area Co-Chairs Colin Helb & Jordan McClain at firstname.lastname@example.org.
General questions and/or inquiries are also welcome. Panels of 3 or 4 presenters, single papers, roundtables, or alternative formats are encouraged. For panel submissions, send paper abstracts along with a panel title and a 50-word summary of the panel's focus.
MAPACA's membership is comprised of college and university faculty, independent scholars and artists, and graduate and undergraduate students. MAPACA is an inclusive professional organization dedicated to the study of popular and American culture in all their multi-disciplinary manifestations.
