CFP: History in Canadian and Quebec Literatures (9/15/06; NEMLA, 3/1/07-3/4/07)full name / name of organization: Andrea Cabajsky contact email: cabajsa@umoncton.ca History In Canadian and Quebec Literatures Does recent fiction written in English Canada and Quebec treat history in similar ways? Or, have cultural and historical differences shaping English-Canadians and Quebecers inclined writers from one milieu to treat history differently from writers in the other? Proposals are invited that draw on any aspect of history (traditional or underrepresented; local or international) and its treatment in recent fiction written in English Canada and Quebec. Although comparative papers are particularly welcome, proposals that deal with fiction written in either English Canada or Quebec will also be considered. The final makeup of the panel will comprise papers that, taken together, treat the topic comparatively. Because this panel aims in part to increase the profiles of Canadian and Quebec Studies at NEMLA, a broad spectrum of proposals is welcome. Please send 500-word proposals by 15 September 2006 to Andrea Cabajsky at cabajsa_at_umoncton.ca or, by regular post, to the Department of English, Universite de Moncton, Moncton, NB, Canada, E1A 3E9. Interested participants may submit proposals to more than one NEMLA panel; however, panelists may only present one paper. Convention participants may present on a paper session panel and at a creative session panel, as well as participating in a roundtable. All participants must be NEMLA members by 30 November 2006.
