CFP- Mapping Effaced Identities. Sept 15 deadline
The twentieth issue of Utah Foreign Language Review seeks to examine the various modes of expression that arise as identities are fragmented and negated through dialectics of power. From marginalization to dissociation, division by ethnicity, religion or social class, gender or sexuality, how are identities effaced and excluded from mainstream cultures? Through music and poetry, visual arts and literature, what subversive identities show their faces in modern cultural production? How does cultural hegemony subsume these faces in a collective façade, and what alternative 'mappings' are possible?
For twenty years, the UFLR has been receptive to a variety of subjects, whether general or specific, and to all scholarly methods and theoretical perspectives. Essays should have creative approaches to literary texts written in any language, or cultural productions such as film and theatre. The ideal Utah Foreign Language Review essay or original creative piece addresses a significant issue relevant to the annual topic and engages the reader through a concise and clear presentation. The Utah Foreign Language Review welcomes submissions of previously unpublished works from graduate students and scholars of all ranks.
