This panel will explore the intersection of scientific and literary discourses in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Britain and its impact on the formation of contemporary constructions of gender. I am especially interested in papers that examine the various ways in which writers of this period engaged with and, at times, adopted scientific rhetoric to comment on or challenge existing gender norms.
