War and Peace: Violence, Justice, Representation
The English Graduate Organization of Western Illinois University invite submissions for our ninth annual conference. We are interested in how the humanities, social sciences, and sciences navigate and interpret the spaces of war and peace. We seek papers and panels that address any aspect of war or peace.
Possible topics include but are not limited to:
The EGO conference intends to explore all areas of English Studies and the Arts and Sciences. Furthermore, we welcome interdisciplinary interest and participation, and encourage scholars from all areas of the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences who have an interest in war and peace to submit proposals.
Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Stacey Peebles, assistant professor of English, at Centre College. Dr. Peebles’s research focuses on representations of war and violence, and she has published numerous articles on a diverse array of artists, including: Cormac McCarthy, Flannery O’Connor, Terrence Malick, and Michael Herr. Her most recent book, Welcome to the Suck: Narrating the American Soldier's Experience in Iraq, was published by Cornell University Press in 2011 and concentrates on the portrayals of American soldiers, in both the Gulf and Iraq Wars, across narrative mediums. Dr. Peebles will speak on Friday, November 9th, and the conference will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10th.
