NeMLA Conference held in Boston at Tufts University
Profiles of the Black Civilizational Image(s)

This is a call for abstracts for a panel being held at Tufts University from March 21st to the 24th 2013. The papers should deal with literary image(s)/narratives of African civilization(s) of the past. This CFP encourages submissions of papers that involve racial notions of European civilizational parity/relativism or contrast. The panel will engage discussion about representations of heritage/legacy in positive or negative capacities. Papers that entail both positive and negative representations of the African past by various writers are welcome. The papers can also include themes of othering and notions of the demise and destruction of civilization. The paper can also involve writings in literature, history, and/or anthropology that engage the idea or ideal of Black civilization.

Please submit abstracts to jserran2@utk.edu (University of Tennessee at Knoxville) by September 30th.
