Call for Papers: "What Lies Beneath: Subtle Ideology and Underlying Arguments" Date: February 16, 2013 from 10 AM – 6 PM

Location: University of North Carolina Wilmington, Morton Hall

Submission Deadline: January 11, 2013

We recognize English scholarship as an amorphous force that is constantly being defined and redefined through various approaches. One such approach focuses on how texts address ideologies, social constructs, and cultural norms and how these dogmas create new topics for discussion. This year's conference is designed to consider the way ideologies, arguments, and themes manifest themselves in a myriad of texts, including books, film, music, graphic novels, and videogames, to cultural artifacts.

Since English Studies and the Humanities address issues both inside and outside academia, we are calling for submissions from a variety of disciplines from across the Humanities, including Literary Studies and Theory, Rhetoric and Composition, Pedagogy, Linguistics, Creative Writing, Film Studies, Sociology, and Communications. Papers should discuss how texts interact with ideologies and the way these ideologies or arguments are used to subtly influence the reader.

Please come join us at the North Carolina coast to meet colleagues and peers interested in English studies and to take a look at "What Lies Beneath" the surface of our everyday textual experiences!
