[UPDATE] Call for Papers: Indigenous Science Fiction February 13-16, 2013full name / name of organization: Native/Indigenous Studies Area Southwest/Texas Popular & American Culture Association contact email: nativestudiespca@gmail.com Southwest/Texas Popular & American Culture Association's Submit abstracts to: http://conference2013.swtxpca.org/ ***DEADLINE Extended to December 2, 2012*** In Walking the Clouds: An Anthology of Indigenous Science Fiction (2012), Grace Dillon explains that Indigenous SF “is not so new—just overlooked.” She continues by writing that her anthology not only explores this strand of Native literature but “advocates that Indigenous authors should write more of it.” Indigenous SF utilizes generic conventions of Science Fiction to explore Native concerns. With this in mind, we are looking for both science fiction and speculative fiction for this creative writing panel. Native writers are particularly encouraged but being indigenous is not required. What is required is that the creative work be relevant to indigenous issues. cfp categories: cultural_studies_and_historical_approaches ethnicity_and_national_identity popular_culture postcolonial science_and_culture twentieth_century_and_beyond
