Reorientations: East Asia in Recent Anglophone Fiction/Journalismfull name / name of organization: Mary Goodwin contact email: profgood@hotmail.com Increasingly important to the world economy as an engine of growth, the dynamic region of East Asia (China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Korea) has for decades figured prominently in world media for its critical geopolitical position. Following the 2013 MLA Boston roundtable on this topic, this CFP invites essays on how East Asia’s emergence onto the world stage has been reflected in recent English-language literature, for possible inclusion in a book-length collection. Topics could include individual countries/literatures/writers or a broader view of "East Asia"; roundtable papers covered D Mitchell's Japan fiction, as well as modern children's literature of Korea, semi-autobiographical expat fiction from China, Taiwan and HK. Please send proposals or abstracts, along with a current c.v., to Mary Goodwin (profgood@hotmail.com). cfp categories: cultural_studies_and_historical_approaches ethnicity_and_national_identity general_announcements interdisciplinary international_conferences journals_and_collections_of_essays modernist studies popular_culture postcolonial theory travel_writing twentieth_century_and_beyond
