Gypsies in American Cultural Imagination
This panel seeks essays from any historical period on Literature, Music, Film, and/or Television for a proposed special session at the MLA Convention in Chicago (Jan. 9-12, 2014) that investigate representations of Gypsies (Romani) in the American Cultural Imagination. We are particularly interested in presentations that consider the ways these individuals, existing on the margins of society, assist in defining "American" identity.
Please send abstracts of 300-500 words along with a current CV to email@example.com by March 10, 2013.
PLEASE NOTE: This CFP is for a proposed, not a guaranteed, session, meaning it is contingent on approval by the MLA Program Committee (which will make its decisions after April 1). All prospective presenters must be current MLA members by no later than 7 April 2012.
