Comparative American Ethnic Literatures—Special Session, PAMLA – submissions due April 15, 2013full name / name of organization: PAMLA—Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association contact email: melanieh@u.washington.edu “FATHER LANDS, MOTHER COUNTRIES, AND WARDS OF THE (NATION) STATE” This special session welcomes submissions that deploy comparative analytical frameworks to re-imagine topics within American studies often limited by the scope of specialized ethnic subfields. This session is particularly intended for those papers that are not easily categorized within one specific ethnic subfield because the analysis attempts to read texts or artifacts across ethnicities in the service of a pan-ethnic American studies. In keeping with PAMLA’s 2013 conference theme, “Stages of Life,” this year’s Comparative American Ethnic Literature panel invites papers with a focus on U.S. paternalism, infantilization, and/or imperial-familial discourses domestically or abroad.
