Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association – November 1-3rd at Bahia Resort Hotel, in San Diego, California.

The power of current food journalists, such as Eric Schlosser and Michael Pollan, have influenced the quest for Americans to figure out ways to write about the plate for over a century. Considering the power of the food publishing industry, many voices are starting to influence the way that Americans cook, dine, and choose their foods.

This panel seeks to understand food authors and how they are connected and influence American cultural standards, which are often disconnected from mainstream food ideals. Possible paper topics are not limited to:

• Television Personalities and their cookbooks
• Food Scholars and their Philosophies
• The role of Food Writing in the Composition Pedagogy
• The influence of MFK Fisher and female foodies
• Cookbook writers and their craft
• The public and food media

Scholars, graduate students, foodies and others interested in the intersection of food and culture are encouraged to submit.

Deadline to submit: April 15, 2013 on the PAMLA Website

http://www.pamla.org/

Presenters must join PAMLA for 2013 by May 1, 2013, and submit conference fees by September 15, 2013.
