This conference will seek to challenge the borders imposed on Cinema: between senses, ideologies, cultures, even the fluctuation of the medium itself in terms of its technologies, production, distribution, and exhibition. From the stage to the gallery to the arcade, expanding to television and digital platforms, the space of Cinema is no longer confined to that of the movie theater. By broadening our definition to include multiple viewing environments and experiences as they have existed throughout time, we can engage new spaces and new ideas.

We as Cinema scholars strive to uncover fertile ground in which to excavate lost thoughts while cultivating new ones. We seek to explore the embrasures of cinematic evolution, the gaps containing affect, creation, and possibility – the "space between stations" after the rupture and before the order. With the stretching of the screen, what we have called the Cinema is changing; our discourse must adapt accordingly.

Possible paper topics and panel discussions may include but are not limited to the following:
-affect
-interdisciplinary or cross disciplinary approaches to cinema
-new media, multimedia, digital media
-cross media, cross genre
-experimental cinema
-cinema online, new directions, and interactivity
-new modes of viewing, new viewing environments
-television, VOD platforms
-guerrilla cinema/ wall and street projections
-the future of film studies
-the space of the screen and beyond it: voice over, neo-benshi, etc.
-evolving technologies/digital theory
-art and cinema
-intercultural cinema
-migrant and diasporic cinema
-transnational or postnational cinema
