The Spaces of Early Modern English Drama

A session at the annual meeting of the Renaissance Society of America,
4-6 April, San Diego, California.

A panel (or panels) exploring aspects of spatial practice in English drama 1500-1700. Papers might explore uses of physical space (theater architecture, furniture, site-specific playing, etc.); they might consider the relation of space and time in performance or in ontological and epistemological theory; they might consider psychological and ideological space, as it is metaphorized and troped on the stage; they might consider the spaces of composition (gendered, classed, geographical); they might discuss the relationship between the body and the environmental space in play world and "real" world. Any other notions of the working of "space" in drama welcome.

Please e-mail an abstract and a brief curriculum vitae to Lloyd Kermode at as soon as possible, but no later than June 1, 2012.

This session will be sponsored by the Center for Medieval and
Renaissance Studies at California State University, Long Beach
