Seeking abstracts (250-300 words)for a special session at the 2009 South
Atlantic Modern Language Association Convention. The session, "African
American Women and Spirit Work" will critically engage African American
women and their various relationships with African-based spirituality
(Voodoo, Conjure, Obeah, etc.) from an interdisciplinary perspective. This
includes, but is not limited to such issues as: negotiation of power,
religious syncretism, image and representation, sexuality,
historical/cultural memory, ancestral lineage, and popular culture.

Please submit abstract and abbreviated CV as Microsoft Word documents to
