[Update] American Shame: Stigma and the Body Politic, Edited Collection [7/15/2013]
This interdisciplinary collection explores how American identity is culturally and historically bound to its distinctive emotional landscape, and in particular, how public shaming practices express and fuel collective anxieties of distinction, separation, and status. I have already selected a range of impressive essays for the book but still seek analyses of American shaming tactics/rhetoric/events in the context of LGBT, immigrant, and criminal justice issues--though I remain open to other possibilities as well. Note that this collection is fairly far along so I can only consider essay drafts, not proposals. Please send submissions for initial review before July 15 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
