INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "WOMEN AND MEDIA: DEMOCRATIC CHANGE AND WOMEN'S GAZE IN THE SPANISH POST-TRANSITION"
University Carlos III, Madrid, November 12th-14th, 2013

This conference wants to link national and international research on Spanish film and television with other approaches taken from the perspectives of gender studies. We aim at debating and analysing the role played by professional women working in TV and cinema since the arrival of democracy in Spain until today. We are particularly interested in the so-called post-transition (1979-1992). During that time, the presence of women in film and TV notably increased. Likewise, as the democracy was firmly in place, the critical and commercial reception of these women's work became more important.

We invite scholars to send proposals (20 minutes), in Spanish or English, on the following topics:
- Women directors, scriptwriters and producers in Spain (since 1979 until today).
- Women working on TV, both fiction and non-fiction (since 1979 until today).
- Women who have worked as executives in media industries (since 1979 until today).
- Comparative perspective. Women and media in international experiences of democratic change.

Abstracts, of no more than 200 words, must be sent to the following email: ccvirino@hum.uc3m.es. They must include a brief bio and institutional affiliation. The deadline is September 20th. The acceptance will be notified before September 30th.

This Conference is organised by the research Group TECMERIN and the Permanent Seminar about Women and Media Creation (MYCREA): www.uc3m.es/tecmerin.
