Masculinities and Subjectivity in Literature (American Men's Studies Association, Deadline October 11, 2013)
American Men's Studies Association 22nd Annual Interdisciplinary Conference
Tacoma Washington, March 27-29, 2014
Deadline: October, 11th 2013
Subjectivity has been and continues to be a primary concern for gender theorists. While important work continues within feminist and LGBT contexts, heteronormative masculinities receive comparatively less attention. This panel will explore heteronormative masculinities and subjectivity, addressing such themes as self-awareness, self-objectification, and the distinction between subjectivity and agency. Given the conference theme, "Considering Culture: Masculinities in International and Regional Contexts," papers that discuss global and cross-cultural masculinities are especially welcome.
