Plantin and Religion

We are seeking three papers to complete a session proposal for the Annual Conference of the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading & Publishing (SHARP), which will be held in Antwerp in September 2014 (http://www.sharp2014.be/).

The session ‘Plantin and Religion’ explores the publishing history of Plantin's religious books and their features. We are especially interested in comparative and critical approaches that are concerned with the key theme of the panel and, therefore, in studying the commonalities, differences, advantages and/or disadvantages that Plantin's religious books had over other similar works. Proposals for papers are invited on, but not confined to, editing, printing, book trading, selling, reading and page layout.

Paper proposals should include a title, an abstract of no more than 400 words and a brief bio. The abstract should clearly state both the paper's thesis and conclusions and outline its wider implications.

Abstracts must be emailed to Benito Rial Costas (benito@ombrettaetc.net) and Paul Dijstelberge (P.Dijstelberge@UVA.NL) by 31 October 2013. The panel organisers will send notifications of their selection no later than 15 November 2013. All speakers must be members of SHARP in order to participate on the panel.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
