Johns Dos Passos in the American Tradition (ALA. May 22-25, 2014. Washington, DC.)
Last year's conference featured a panel on the intersections of Dos Passos and Hemingway. Following those productive discussions, we invite papers that study Dos Passos's intersections across the American tradition. Papers might study his better-known works within the proletarian novel or the protest genre, or his relations to realist or postmodernist fiction. Papers might also study lesser-known works, such as his histories or travel writing, for his unique contributions to the American tradition. How does Dos Passos illuminate the conventions of the 19th century, or those that came after the modern period? How does his relation to the American tradition affect his standing in the canon?
