19th-century American poetry vs. the Poetess
Female poets writing from the center of the 19th century American tradition
of poetics have a vexed relationship with the poetess tradition--either
because they are defined as poetesses, or because they are not. Papers
might consider, but are not limited to, issues of genre, critical
reception, and author autonomy (or lack of). Authors such as Frances
Osgood, Lydia Sigourney, Maria Gowen Brooks, Sara Teasdale, Edna St.
Vincent Millay are of particular interest, but others are welcome.
Please send a one-page abstract and one-page C.V. to Amber LaPiana,
amber_lapiana_at_wsu.edu by December 21st.
