Individual papers and panels are now being accepted on topics related to Food and Culture for the 35th annual Southwest Popular/American Culture Association to be held in Albuquerque, NM. Papers and panels that connect to the conference theme, "Popular and American Culture Studies: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" are welcome, as are papers and panels that explore other topics connected to food, eating, and cooking in literature, film, and other popular culture (and in American culture in general).
Scholars, graduate students, teachers, and others interested in the intersection of culinary production/consumption and culture are encouraged to participate.
Graduate student presenters are eligible for travel fellowships and award opportunities for best papers. Find a list of graduate student awards here:
http://southwestpca.org/conference/graduate-student-awards/. Recent graduate student Food and Culture presenters have received the Lawrence Clayton Award for Texas Culture, the Diana Cox Award for Images of Women, and the Peter C. Rollins Award for Popular Culture Issue.
Please submit 250-350 word abstracts to http://conference2014.southwestpca.org/ by
November 15, 2013. If you wish to form your own Food and Culture panel of three to four participants, please submit a separate abstract and paper title for each presenter.
