A Roundtable Discussion of Holman Award Winners
SOCIETY FOR THE STUDY OF SOUTHERN LITERATURE CONFERENCE
March 27-29, 2014 in Arlington, VA
The Society for the Study of Southern Literature has offered the C. Hugh Holman Award annually for the best book of literary scholarship or literary criticism in the field of southern literature published during the preceding calendar year for more than twenty-five years. Proposals for remarks exploring the intellectual life and influence of any of these award-winning texts are invited for a roundtable at SSSL 2014. A sample of possible approaches might include assessments of the continuing influence in the field of any of these texts by their authors or students, conversations with and between these texts, explorations of the evolving thought of any of their authors, or considerations of the influence of any of these texts outside the field of southern literary studies. Early winners included Louis D. Rubin, Richard Gray, Donald David, Elizabeth Fox-Genovese, Charles Wilson, and William Ferris. Recent winners include Tim Armstrong, Jean Cash, Philip Weinstein, Jennifer Rae Greeson, and Scott Romine. A complete list of winners is available here: http://southernlit.org/hugh-holman-award/. Please send abstracts and a cover letter to Tara Powell at firstname.lastname@example.org by December 5, 2014. Information about SSSL 2014 is available at http://southernlit.org/conference/.
