Concept Note:
As there has been a critical engagement between literary/canonical texts and other non-canonical texts, realized through celluloid medium, animation film, music video, advertisement, news and other programme on television, the ways of reading authors and texts should now be rethought. Since the essentialist process of meaning-making has been debunked with the emergence of post 1960s critical thoughts, new ways of understanding history, culture and texts have to be sought and be made a part of the larger academic curricula. Realizing that our understanding of the culture, history and identity is now often mediated by a visual culture, the elements of popular culture like music video and advertisement demand serious critical attention. Keeping in mind the changes in the ways, canonical and also non-canonical cultural texts are produced, circulated and received/consumed in the post-globalised world, an eight-day workshop titled "The Moving Image: A National Workshop" from January 7-10, 2014 is being organized. The purpose of the workshop will be to disseminate these ideas in the broader field of academic research, teaching and the print and electronic media (including media commentators). The workshop will consist of presentation/analysis/demonstration by resource persons to be followed by interactive sessions between the resource persons and the participants.
