The topic of this panel will be poison: literal and metaphorical poisons; real and imagined poisons; newly-discovered poisons; cures and treatments for poisons; poisons used for medicinal purposes; cosmetics and poisons; poisonous plants; poison and food; poisoning as crime; poison and gender; representations of poisonings in drama, fiction, poetry, medical books, and legal writings; and other uses and abuses of poisons in the long eighteenth century.
