International Conference on Inter-disciplinarity, Multi-disciplinarity and Trans-disciplinarity in Humanities
Scope of the conference
Traditionally, multidisciplinarity draws on knowledge from different disciplines but stays within their boundaries. Moreover, interdisciplinary studies have focused on contemporary cultural constructedness, bringing to the fore key concepts, critical frameworks and fundamental research in different areas of investigation. Thus, inter-disciplinarity facilitated access to knowledge regarding theories and pragmatic research in contemporary issues and the conditions in which they emerged. Some major cultural debates were held, particularly those around globalization and technology which fundamentally affected the way we perceive race and ethnicity, gender, environment and broader aspects such as nation and society at large.
What is the humanist response to this fundamental change? What is the ontological status of humanities in this new context? It is obvious that we are witnessing a new paradigm of thought, which calls for a new approach, a more trans-disciplinary one in which the role of humanities needs to be re-defined. With the help of this conference, the interdependent nature of different fields of study will be touched upon in the light of the bringings of the new age, like globalization, media and multiculturalism.
We welcome proposals that attempt to overcome the limitations of the preceding humanities studies and to develop pragmatic and trans-disciplinary cultural phenomena in the areas of cultural debates (globalization, media and multiculturalism) as well as in the fields of cultural interactions and hybridity, (cultural) translation and comparative literature, post-humanism and the human among others.
We do hope that the event will foster institutional collaboration at the regional/national/international levels and provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas, experience, best practices and support services. There are no restrictions in term of the time period, geographical area and disciplinary approach. Some potential topics include:
• Literary Studies Language Studies
• History Cultural Studies Gender Studies
• Translation Studies
