The editors, who produced the scholarly collections Upon Further Review: Sports and American Literature (Praeger, 2004) and Critical Insights: American Sports Fiction (Salem, 2013), have already accepted proposals for nearly all the chapters of The American Short Story volume (Grey House Publishing). As it stands now, the book will contain chapters on writers ranging from Henry James to Jhumpa Lahiri. Some chapters will focus on intriguing subgenres of the short story such as the short story cycle and micro fiction.

The editors still need a 4000-5000 word critical reception chapter that surveys major pieces of criticism on the American short story and the major
concerns of critics over the years.

Please submit a 250-word abstract and a brief CV to Michael Cocchiarale(mfcocchiarale@mail.widener.edu) AND Scott D. Emmert (scott.emmert@uwc.edu) by January
24, 2014. The abstract should briefly explain your proposed approach to the critical reception chapter and demonstrate your familiarity with short story scholarship.

Notification of acceptance will be given by January 30, 2014. The completed chapter will be due by May 1, 2014.
