Call For Papers: MLA Convention 2015

Transnational Adoption in Film

Alliance for the Study of Adoption and Culture seeks paper proposals for its guaranteed session at the MLA Annual Convention in Vancouver, Canada. January 8-11, 2015.

The panel will explore adoption in film with special focus on the ways national/transnational policies, politics, and ideologies shape the institution of adoption and lives of the adoption triad members. Philomena and Das Lied von Mir (The Day I Was Not Born)) are examples of such cinema. National/transnational trends in production, representation, and other analytical perspectives are also of interest. Comparative approaches are welcome.
Papers on continental European, Latin American, Asian, and African film are especially sought, but we will also consider papers on films from North America, Ireland, and the UK.
Please send your 300-word proposals to Marina Fedosik at mf107@nyu.edu by March 1.
