The following CFP is for a non-guaranteed Special session for the 2015 Annual Convention of the Modern Language Association in Vancouver, organized jointly by the South Asian Literature and African Literature divisions.

South Asians in Africa: the literary, historical, and cinematic representation of the experience of the South Asian diaspora in Africa.

South Asian Africans: a contradiction or a synthesis? How have Africans of South Asian origin represented themselves in literature and film? How have South Asians who live and work in various parts of Africa been represented in fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction, or film? What political, historical, social, and literary roles do they play in the African cultures of which they are a part? The African Literature and South Asian Literature divisions of the MLA are proposing this joint Special Session for MLA 2015. By 15 March 2014, please send abstracts of 300 words or less, on any aspect of this topic, to Madhurima Chakraborty (mchakraborty@colum.edu) and Joya Uraizee (uraizeej@slu.edu).
