India and America in Popular Culture

Over Christmas 2013, Dhoom 3 released in to enormous international success, both in India where it was produced and in America, where it was filmed. More and more these two countries are cementing their trade deals with sharing popular culture. Everything from Yo Yo Honey Singh’s Hip Hop influenced songs to Diwali episodes of The Office to Shahrukh Khan presenting at the Golden Globes show these increasing ties. Is this a new form of colonialism or is it an equal partnership? How are the products adapted as the travel between cultures? What is lost and what is gained?
