CALL FOR PAPERS: Anthology - Park Barnitz's "Book of Jade"
I am pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of a critical compendium on the writings of David Park Barnitz, to accompany Hippocampus Press's new edition of his Book of Jade, slated to be released in late December of 2014. Barnitz is a little-known American Decadent poet; digital editions of his poetry, as well as extant critical work on his life and writing, can be found here: http://bookofjade.com/.
We are interested in papers concerning any aspect of Park Barnitz's life and/or work -- whether a historical/political contextualization, a "close-reading" kind of analysis of a specific poem or group of poems, some notes on Barnitz as a writer of the Weird or as a Decadent/Symbolist, a reading of his work through a particular critical lens or framework, or anything else you think might aid in illuminating some facet of his art .
This supplementary volume will also include recently discovered essays by Barnitz, as well as reprints of past scholarly work done on his life and on the BOJ. I welcome all pitches, ideas (half-formed at this point is fine), and submissions (if, for whatever reason, you have already written something on the subject). I can offer a contributor's copy and monetary compensation -- at least $25 -- for articles. Final deadline for complete article submissions is July 1, although there is some flexibility here. The sooner the pitch is received, the better.
I hope you find this project of interest. Feel free to pass along this information to any other scholars/writers you know who might want to contribute.
