E[RACE]ED: METHODOLOGY OF THE REPRESSED

This panel deploys comparative analytical frameworks to re-imagine topics within American studies often limited by the scope of specialized ethnic subfields. Papers will take a pan-ethnic, interdisciplinary approach to interrogate ongoing American national concerns, veering away from insulated politico-racial narrative trajectories.

In keeping with the 2014 conference’s theme of “Familiar Spirits,” 2014’s Comparative American Ethnic Literature panel invites paper proposals that address the topic of racialized U.S. Gothicism, acts of silencing, erasure, and retribution. This year’s panel situates itself at the theoretical intersection of Freud’s “return of the repressed” and Chela Sandoval’s Methodology of the Oppressed… hence, its title!

Submission deadline: May 31, 2014

Please submit one-page proposal (4,000 character limit) along with a short program abstract (500 character limit) via PAMLA’s online submission form:
