The Romance of Sidney and Spenser

This seminar explores how Sidney and Spenser engage with and develop the romance framework alongside and against their contemporaries. How do these poets revise, contest, or maintain conventions of romance in their own works? How do they represent and reconcile the genreā€™s tendency toward contradiction, conflation, and multiplicity? How do they influence later authors and contribute to the evolution of the genre and its concerns in the English tradition?

According to new submission guidelines, no abstracts will be accepted through email. Instead, please submit 300 word-abstracts to Allison Goff and Julia Gingerich through the NeMLA submission website: https://nemla.org/convention/2015/cfp.html#cfp15124

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Allison Goff at 31ag22@queensu.ca or Julia Gingerich at julia.gingerich@queensu.ca
