As LGBTQ Studies finds disciplinary space on a growing number of university and college campuses, questions about the cultural and intellectual effects of academic institutionalization have become progressively more urgent:

• Where is the broad field of LGBTQ Studies heading?
• Where has it been? How might we negotiate the relationship between intellectual inquiry and social movements?
• In what ways might the epistemological concerns of LGBTQ Studies affect the pedagogical imperatives of the classroom (and vice-versa)?

"The Coming of Age of LGBTQ Studies" is a two-day conference devoted to exploring these and related questions.

We invite proposals that explore and interrogate issues related to the place of LGBTQ studies in the academy. The organizing committee is particularly interested in papers that address the opportunities and challenges that face LGBTQ Studies in the current moment, that highlight current research trends, or that focus on interdisciplinary approaches. We encourage proposals from a diverse range of disciplinary fields, approaches, and methodologies.

Interested scholars are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 300 words, along with a brief CV (including name, email address, and institutional affiliation), to lgbtqrc@mail.sdsu.edu by December 1, 2014.

Proposals for complete panels (three related presentations) are also welcome, but they must include an abstract of each proposal as well as a brief cv and contact information, including an e-mail address for each presenter.

Electronic acknowledgment of submissions will be sent upon receipt of proposals and related documents.

Those selected to participate will receive notification by December 15, 2014. All participants must register by January 15, 2015.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the conference organizers at lgbtqrc@mail.sdsu.edu
