Planeta Literatur. Journal of Global Literary Studies (http://www.planeta-literatur.com/) is seeking for additional contributions to extend the coverage of the forthcoming issue "Trans-Adriatic. Fluxes, diasporas and displaced cartographies between Italian and Balkan Peninsula".

The concept of this issue of "Planeta Literatur" is dictated by a sea, the Adriatic, and the multiple forms of interchange it permits to establish. We may say the Adriatic is a body of water uniting (not separating) the Italian Peninsula and the Balkans. Italy and Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia form a zone of crisscrossing interconnections constituted not only by exchange of ideas, but also by migrations and diasporas. At the same time, the "trans-Adriatic" dimension is present in the literary and intellectual worlds spreading eastwards and westwards from this essential nexus, interfering with larger horizons of eastern Mediterranean and arguably implying such countries as Greece and Turkey, as well as Serbia, Macedonia, Romania and Moldova.
The cultural and literary identity of this region, partially due to its tormented history, frequently poses questions concerning belonging, affinities and loyalties. Its literary and intellectual capitals form a complex map of connections, interferences and potentialities actualized in different moments of the cultural history. What the poetry of Cavafy or the intellectual project of Eliade would be without their Italian contacts and references? The influence of the Adriatic nexus spreads also westwards: could we imagine James Joyce would be without his experience of Trieste? The neologism we propose, "trans-Adriaticity", could be used as an analytic key permitting to dive deep into the history of the region as well as to read contemporary writers, such as, just to give an example, Milorad Pavić or the writers of the Albanian diaspora.
Last minute contributions to this issue should be submitted by the end February 2015. We accept texts either in English or in any language pertinent to the analyzed material. The submissions should be sent to planeta.literatur@gmail.com.
