CFP: [American] Teaching Charlotte Perkins Gilman: Current Contexts
Teaching Charlotte Perkins Gilman: Current Contexts
This panel will include several shorter papers and provide a forum for
discussion of materials and methods in relation to teaching Gilman's
work. Gilman's concerns span many fields, including theories of art,
history, childhood education, human welfare, and public planning,
economic theory, natural history and botany, and are expressed in both
fiction and nonfiction. How is she being taught now?
Contexts may include but are not limited to: Aesthetic Theory, American
Philosophy/Pragmatism, History, Realism/Naturalism, Theology/Religion,
trans-Atlantic modernism and culture, as well as the work of other
writers. Papers considering Gilmanâ€™s nonfiction are encouraged!
Participants need to be or become members of the Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Society. Please submit proposals for 10-12 minute presentations/papers
and 1-pg CV by January 20 to Melina Mamigonian (mmamigonian_at_hw.com).
