CFP: Science Fiction and Fantasy, SWPACA (11/15/15; 2/10-13/2016)

Join us for the 37th Annual Southwest Popular / American Culture Association Conference, February 10-13, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Area chairs of the Southwest Popular /American Culture Association (www.southwestpca.org) invite paper or panel proposals on any aspect of science fiction in print, film, or other media.

Proposal submission deadline has been extended to: November 15, 2015.

Any and all topics will be considered. Past presentations have covered a variety of topics including British SFF TV, Fan Studies, Race, gender, sexuality, and socio-economic class, science fiction and fantasy and pedagogy, adaptation and a variety of texts. We are interested in thematically or textually linked panels of three or four papers as well as individual submissions. Please look through the list of other conference areas on the website as apocalyptic studies and computer games, for instance, have their own area chairs and you should direct your proposal accordingly.

If you would like to present on the television show Supernatural (Tamy Burnett), British SF/F (media and literature, including Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Orphan Black) (Erin Giannini), the works of Joss Whedon (Susan Fanetti), or Science Fiction Literature or The Game of Thrones (Brian Cowlishaw), please look for those areas' specific CFPs on the Southwest PCA/ACA's area list at http://southwestpca.org/conference/call-for-papers/

Submit 250-word paper proposals or multiple-paper panel proposals (each paper abstract must be submitted separately on a separate proposal form) to the 2016 SWPACA Presenter Database at http://conference2016.southwestpca.org. Choose the area "Science Fiction & Fantasy – General." If you are experiencing difficulties with the submission process, please follow the help prompts on the database page.

Graduate students who present papers in the Area are eligible to apply for the Richard Tuerk "Out of This World" Paper Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy. See http://southwestpca.org/conference/graduate-student-awards/

Extended Deadline for submission is November 15. Any questions? Please contact Rikk Mulligan
