CFP: [18th] SCMLA 2008 Panel: The African in British Eighteenth-Century Literature

The 2008 meeting of the South Central Modern Language Association will
take place in beautiful San Antonio, Texas, November 6-8.

I am inviting paper abstracts for a proposed special session
entitled "The African in British Eighteenth-Century Literature." Papers
might examine, but are not limited to, the following topics about the
long century, 1660-1815:

* texts authored by African-British writers
* the slavery debates in print
* the representation of African masculinity and/or femininity in
canonical literature, non-canonical literature and satirical graphic art

Paper proposals approximately a page in length should be sent to Kamille
Stone Stanton anytime before February 1, 2008.
