New Series Announcement

CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN AND CANADIAN WRITERS

Call for Proposals for a new series of academic monographs

Manchester University Press is proud to announce the launch of a new
series dedicated to the critical appraisal of contemporary North American
writers. The series will reflect the breadth and diversity of writing in
America over the last thirty years, and will provide critical evaluations
of established, emerging and critically neglected novelists. This series
offers an exciting opportunity for authors to explore notions of the
contemporary, and to analyze current and developing modes of
representation with a focus on individual writers and their works.

Edited by Sharon Monteith (University of Nottingham) and Nahem Yousaf
(Nottingham Trent University), the series will reflect both the growing
body of academic research in the field, and the increasing prevalence of
contemporary North American fiction on programmes of study in institutions
of higher education around the world. Volumes in this series are aimed at
the undergraduate / postgraduate / research market and proposals should
aim to accommodate this academic audience.

In the first instance proposals are sought for monographs on the following
novelists:

Margaret Atwood Carol Shields
Paul Auster Louise Erdich
Bharati Mukherjee Thomas Pynchon
Philip Roth Don DeLillo
Tim O'Brien Anne Tyler

The Press is also keen to receive proposals for manuscripts (50,000 to
90,000 words) on writers other than the above. An indicative list might
include: Octavia Butler, Jayne Anne Phillips, Joyce Carol Oates, Charles
Johnson, Cormac McCarthy, Sherman Alexie, Ishmael Reed, Leslie Marmon
Silko, Edwidge Danticat, John Edgar Wideman, Ha Jin, Douglas Coupland,
Bret Easton Ellis and others.

Please send proposals, questions, or expressions of interest to both
editors simultaneously:
