The Department of Liberal Arts at Savannah College of Art & Design is
requesting proposals for a Caribbean Arts and Culture Symposium to be
held in Atlanta, GA (USA) on June 25-26, 2008. Kwame Dawes is the
keynote speaker. Organizers of the symposium are interested in receiving
proposals/abstracts from faculty, independent scholars, graduate students
and undergraduate students working in the literary, visual, performing,
design, and communication arts as well as social, cultural, and
historical studies. Possible topics may include but are not limited to:
*The Global, Postmodern and Postcolonial; *Gender Impact on Artistic
Creations; *Rastafarianism as a Global Movement; *Reggae and Calypso;
*Caribbean Design: Architecture and Fashion; *Carnival and Junkanoo;
*Criticism and Popular Culture; *Tracing Traditions: Art, History, and
Politics; *Technology and Transformation, *Caribbean Reflections in a
Post 9/11 World; and *Caribbean Performance and Imitiation. Please
submit proposals no later than November 13, 2007 to:

made at 404-253-3194. Please provide name, address, status (professor,
independent scholar, graduate/undergraduate student) as well as
institutional affiliation (if any)in the proposal/abstract. Registration
for the symposium is $125 (US) for professors and independent scholars,
$100 (US) for graduate students and $75 (US) for undergraduate students.
The registration fee covers breakfast and lunch on both days of the
symposium. Lodging information will be forwarded upon receipt of
proposals/abstracts. Abstracts should be no more than one-page long and
give the title and thesis of the presentation. Proposals must also
indicate audioivisual and other equipment requests.
