AFRO-DIASPORIC CINEMA
Callaloo seeks papers for a special issue on “Afro-Diasporic Cinema” to be
published in 2006. In addition to innovative, interdisciplinary, historically
informed, aesthetic analyses of film, television, video and digitial art
throughout the diaspora, Callaloo welcomes the submission of screenplays,
scenarios, interviews and images thatdocument black cinematic practices,
broadly conceived.

Fred Moten (University of Southern California), the Guest Editor of the
special Cinema issue of Callaloo, is interested in work which investigates
the vast range of particularities that mark the field of Afro-Diasporic
motion pictures, particularities which disrupt and reconstruct established
ideas in film theory and criticism, including but not limited to such broad
topics as:

—Sexuality
—Spectatorship
—Experimentalism
—Narrativity
—Ethnography

At the same time, he encourages work whose primary focus on the interplay of
visuality and movement will challenge orthodoxies that serve as a function of
Afro-Diasporic cultural criticism’s deep concern with issues of sound and
orality.

Please follow the Callaloo submission guidelines: MLA format, papers
submitted in triplicate (two blind copies and a cover letter containing the
author’s contact information). Double spaced papers in 12 point font are
preferred. All submitted material must include either an e-mail address or a
self-addressed envelope (SAE) with loose postage adequate for a letter
notifying you of our decision.

Deadline for submissions: August 1, 2005:
